Make A Healthy Child-Friendly Lunchbox With Exotic Fruits

Encouraging healthy habits in children can sometimes be a battle: kids are usually drawn to brightly coloured and sweet flavoured foods packed with additives, rather than wholesome brown nuts and grains.

However, healthy food doesn’t need to be boring and our medium exotic fruit box is the perfect size to provide your kids with fun and nutritious lunches all week long.

Packed with exciting flavours, vibrant colours and interesting textures, exotic fruits are also a great source of vitamins, fibre, and natural sugars that won’t cause glucose spikes. Here are some ideas to introduce your kids to world foods that they will genuinely love to eat.

Dragon fruit

Dragon fruits are sure to capture the imagination of any child, with its vivid yellow colour, spiny skin, and intriguing seed-speckled interior. The flesh has a crunchy texture and refreshing slightly sweet flavour. When sliced up, the dragon fruit makes fun shapes that will brighten up any lunchbox.

Rambutan

Kids will be fascinated by the hairy texture of the skin of this unusual exotic fruit! Older children should be able to peel the skin by squeezing the fruit slightly to break it, so they can enjoy the juicy sweet interior. For younger children, peel and halve the rambutan for easy eating.

Star fruit

The star fruit gets its name from its unique shape, and forms pretty star shapes when sliced. It can be consumed with the skin on, so you don’t need to worry about peeling, although cut the ends off as these can be a little tough. It has a pleasant slightly sweet but citrussy taste and juicy texture, and can be eaten on its own or added to salads.

It’s packed with vitamin C and fibre and low in calories, so it’s the perfect healthy snack.
